On Friday 26th of April 2019 as every year the doors of Brno based artistic ateliers and studios are to open again.
Open Studios Brno represents an annual repetitive project with its fundamental modus operandi being based on the principle of “the open door” to artistic studios and ateliers.
It is – so to speak – a festival of contemporary art. Our goal is to not only map but also to introduce the artistic landscape of the city of Brno In one of its very specific forms. For two days we open the doors of our studios that are based in so-called creative clusters. Those are places where specific communities of artists and other creative professionals are based.
The artists in their most natural working environment make sure that the public has an opportunity to encounter their works of art and creations through their own authentic interpretations. The visitors have a chance to learn more about the artists themselves, about how the artists think, and about the process of works of art coming to life. They are able – for a short while – to touch and experience the creative atmosphere of artistic studios.
Our visitors also have an opportunity to see the studios of architects and designers as well as independent galleries or co-working spaces that are among other things focused on organising, preparing and holding exhibitions.
The walk which is guided by an art curator represents a very important part of our project. This year our visitors’ guide will be a Masaryk University lecturer, a historian and an art critic – Marcela Rusinko.
We are also bringing somewhat of a fundamental novelty this year, as we are for the first time cooperating with the organisers of Brno Art Week. It came to life joining two municipal projects. Previously referred to as the Week of Art Culture it has for several years been interconnecting with institutions as well as preparing program for the public consisting of lectures, workshops, exhibitions and gallery based performances. Our cooperation with Brno Art Weeks enables the visitors to move from the galleries all the way to the actual places where the artworks are created- into the studios and ateliers of the artists.
As every year also now the premises of VUT Kravi hora will house, for the entire Friday, what we see as an interesting program of music performances and gigs that are to amount to the very successful conclusion of Brno Art Week.
Other related events such as roundtable discussions and workshops, concerts, and gigs will be happening on Saturday morning in several locations. The locations include for example a former building of FAVU on Rybářská street. Currently the studios housed in this very building are used by more than 20 personalities of local Brno artistic community.
